Dateline - 02/12/2017 - After taking over three months off the project, it's time to get back to work! This weekend I worked on body panel alignment. After cleaning up my work area of the three months of collected cruft, Started work on body panel alignment. After fitting door seals and latches, I noticed that the doors did not align very well. So I spent about five hours fiddling with the doors and front fenders to get them to fit correctly. I still have work to do on the truck lid, but at least the rest of the body panels line up now. It is amazing how big the cut lines are on this car. I know each one was hand assembled, but when you look at these cars compared to modern cars, the gaps are darned near Grand Canyon sized! But that is what they had to do to get the panels to fit with the late '60s manufacturing methods.
Time to take some inventory. What is left to do on the car:
- New tires
- Bleed brakes
- Install shifter housing
- Finish "Information Center" housing
- Figure out why I'm getting a gas smell in the trunk
- Adjust the trunk lid
- Install courtesy light switches on doors
- Clean up headlight wiring in wheel wells
- Check right gas tank gauge
- Paint and install fender cross braces
- Install bumpers
- Check power steering rack for leaks
- Install Cyclops light in back
- Re-install back speakers
- Install front speakers
Then we get into new work:
- Build and upholster back seats
- Build and upholster back door panels
- Upholster trunk
